Barcelona’s South American forwards made history on Tuesday night as they cruised past the combined 100 goal mark.
Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar came into the Liga match against Getafe with a tally of 97 goals in all competitions this season.
Messi was in charge of opening the scoring, chipping home a penalty, Suarez got the second and Neymar the third in the sequence as Barça raced into 3-0 lead after just 28 minutes.
Those three goals had a special significance too. Not just because each of Barcelona’s forwards scored one, but because it took them onto 100 for the ongoing season.
In the 2008-09 season, the then trio of Lionel Messi (38) , Samuel Eto’o (36) and Thierry Henry (26) managed 100 across the whole campaign.
Suarez scored Barça’s fifth against Getafe and Messi added the sixth, taking the three attackers onto 102 for the season.
All of the goals scored against Getafe showed Barça’s complete class and dominance in the game.
This is how things stand with a minimum of seven games still to come: Messi (49), Neymar (32) and Suarez (21).
